Dishwasher Myths and Tips

In this weeks episode of APPLIANCE MASTER LIVE, Bill and Kari visit an Appliance Store where they talk about dishwasher tips, myths and the maintenance of your dishwasher.

A common myth about dishwashers is that they use more water compared to hand washing your dishes, when in fact dishwashers use 7 times less water.

Modern dish washing detergents use enzymes rather than phosphates like they did in the past. Phosphates needed very hot water to function properly while enzymes use room temperature water and are better for your dishes. Modern dish washing detergents that use enzymes are more energy efficient and will save you money in energy bills the long run.

“Friends don’t let friends pre-rinse dishes” Bill recommends to scrape off larger food debris off of dishes and that no pre-rinsing is needed. Your dishwasher will take care of the rest!

  • I’m glad to know that dishwashers use 7 times less water compared to simply handwashing our dirty dishes. It seems like our dishwasher is broken, which is why my mom has been handwashing the plates these past few days. I’ll have to call an appliance repair professional soon to get the dishwasher fixed right away.
